Exercise Therapy
Daily activities help us to be physically fit and this keeps our organs such as heart, lungs, and other muscles in proper functioning state. Our body parts naturally move in particular ways so that it remains healthy, but when we move our muscles in inappropriate ways, it causes some form of chronic pain or injury and this suspends our day-to-day activities. In order to alleviate this pain, we must exercise our body.
Exercise itself can be a form of therapy where we move our body parts in specific ways. The specialized form of movements will improve mobility and also increases the fitness level. Therapeutic exercises are suggested for prevention of injury and also used for rehabilitation. These exercises also help in suppressing the recurrence of pain and it enables us to understand our body in a much better way.
Therapeutic Massage
Therapeutic Massage is a type of relaxation massage where the goal is to loosen muscles, improve muscle tone and increase flexibility. This form of massage is also designed for athletes to help them keep their bodies fit and avoid muscle strain during intense physical activity. Specific massage therapy is done for chronic health conditions such as body aches, back pain, palliative (cancer) care massage, pediatric massage, fibromyalgia and arthritis.
Manual Therapy
Manual Therapy and Manipulative Therapy is a physical treatment method used to treat musculoskeletal pain and disability by kneading and manipulation of muscles, joint mobilization and joint manipulation.
This is usually done first by diagnosis of the source of pain and then by treating the soft tissues and joint structures which helps in, relieving the pain, increasing range of motion, reducing or eliminating soft tissue inflammation, inducing relaxation, improving contractile and non-contractile tissue repair thereby facilitating movement and improving function.
Dry Needling
Dry needling is a modern treatment designed to ease muscular pain. Its popularity is growing.
During dry needling, a practitioner inserts several filiform needles into your skin. Filiform needles are fine, short, stainless steel needles that don’t inject fluid into the body. That’s why the term “dry” is used. Practitioners place the needles in “trigger points” in your muscle or tissue. Dry needling is also sometimes called intramuscular stimulation. The points are areas of knotted or hard muscle.
Dry needling helps release the knot and relieve any muscle pain or spasms. The needles will remain in your skin for a short period of time. The length of time depends on the practitioner. healthcare professionals, such as physical therapists and massage therapists, receive professional training in dry needling.
Electrotherapy
It is the use of electrical energy as a medical treatment procedure for rehabilitation purposes. The most common purpose of electrotherapy is for relaxation of muscle spasms, prevention and retardation of disuse atrophy, increase of local blood circulation, muscle rehabilitation, maintaining and increasing range of motion, management of chronic and intractable pain, post-traumatic and post-surgical acute pain, immediate post-surgical stimulation of muscles to prevent venous thrombosis, and wound healing.
Some of other more specific uses include, treating neuromuscular dysfunction, improving range of joint mobility, tissue repair, acute and chronic edema, peripheral blood flow, iontophoresis, urine and fecal incontinence.
Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy is the general use of low temperatures for treating an injured part of the body. The objective is to decrease inflammation, decrease pain and spasm, promote vasoconstriction, decrease cellular metabolism.
Generally, an ice pack is placed over an injured area, so that it absorbs heat of a closed traumatic or edematous injury by way of conduction. As a result, cold decreases muscle spindle fiber activity and slows the nerve conduction velocity, thereby decreasing spasticity and hence alleviating the pain.
Orthotics
It is the field of application of orthosis; which is an orthopaedic device to support or correct the function of a limb or a torso. The device used is commonly called as brace usually made of plastic or metal or a combination of similar materials. The brace is used to control, guide, limit and / or immobilize a joint or body segment, to resist movement in a given direction, to assist general movement, to reduce weight bearing forces for a particular purpose, to aid rehabilitation from fractures after removal of a cast, to correct the shape and / or function of the body.
Yoga Therapy
Yoga therapy is the use of yoga techniques for treatment of various ailments. This includes detailed assessment of the musculoskeletal structure and then recommending appropriate yoga exercises. Specific yoga exercises or a combination of several exercises are employed for treatment of pain found in the neck, spine, shoulders, legs and hips. Yoga exercises are also applied to treat arthritis, arteriosclerosis, to strengthen the bones and improving muscle flexibility.
